We are VR Hike...
Garrison Waugh
On a recent trip to Hawaii, my family and I were hiking up the Kuliouou Trail. Being eager to observe the view at the top of the trail, I went ahead of my family up the seemingly endless amounts of stairs. Upon arriving at the top, I was met with a near 360° view of Honolulu and the surrounding parts of Oahu. When my family arrived, we were able to enjoy the view and bask in the unworldly beauty found on this trail. Upon reflecting, it was the combination of the views and family that imprinted such vivid memories in me. On our way back down the trail, I began thinking about how unfortunate it is that some people have not and never will be able to experience hikes like this. Because of that, I made it my goal to find a way to allow people to do so.

I’ve grown up on trails my entire life, whether it be for biking or the occasional run with my parents we always search and use trails wherever we may find them. On one of my family’s most recent trips, we went to Yosemite National Park and ventured many of the trails that were offered; however, to our disappointment, many of the popular trails were closed because of the wildfire going through California. As we saw the signs for the closed trails, a sense of bitterness fell over me as I knew I may never have a chance to see these trails in my lifetime.
